JH Studio uncovers and translates our commercial clients’ identities into unique branded spaces.
Our client wanted his cafe to attract customers from under the existing deep overhang. We created a bold eye-catching space that became the basis of his brand identify. We laid out a highly efficient kitchen and created mezzanine space for his office. The unique, cast concrete decorative panels on the espresso bar were made in collaboration with an innovative Brooklynn subcontractor, Lavada, Inc.
To create a clean, minimal space we opened up the drop ceiling and tilting the new ceiling, hiding all of the light fixtures, equipment, heating and cooling. From the west the bar appears to be gray.
From the East, the bar appears to be red. We collaborated with Lavada, who specializes in custom finishes to create this color shifting concrete panel system.
The work area is designed to minimize clutter and to show off the work of the barista.

The space has windows on three sides. This concept plan shows our strong spatial organization which totally conceals the back of house and maximizes customer space.

Mizu (Japanes for water) is a two-floor Park Avenue Salon in New York City. Blue stair treads flow down the retrofitted stair. Large lights visually connect the two floors.
A translucent blue enclosure conceals storage and a passageway to the VIP area
A soft fabric wall dampens sound and adds warmth.
Our objective was to create a clean bright modern work space. The head colorist reports that the lighting is the best he's ever had.
Finishes and colors are echoed throughout the space to create a calm continuity. Our design won a Salon of the Year award.

Custom Lamps. Broome Street Shades
Kellwood is the leatherwoods division of Polo Ralph Lauren. The Fashion District offices we designed for them are calm and inviting, reflecting the quality of the products they make.
In the showroom, sliding translucent panels divide the showroom into several smaller spaces for buyer meetings during Fashion Week.
Neat, continuous custom cabinetry lines three sides of the showroom. The doors open fully, becoming display for buyer meetings. Lighting and services such as air conditioning are tightly organized to minimize visual distractions.
The open studio has individual work spaces delineated by custom translucent panels which match the finishes in the showroom.
